Kids math puzzle – measuring volume

There is an 8 gallon jug full of water, a 5 gallon empty jug and a 3 gallon empty jug. Find a way to get 4 gallons of water.

    Fill the 5 gallon mug. Use the water from that to fill the 3 gallon mug. There’s 2 gallons left in the 5 gallon mug. Pour back the water from the 3 gallon mug into the 8 gallon mug and the 2 gallons from the 5 g mug into the 3G mug.
    We now have 6g in the 8 g mug an empty 5 g mug and 2g in the 3 g mug
    Now fill the 5g mug from the 6g in the 8 g mug= 1 g in 8 g mug. Now top up the 3 g mug from the 5 g and empty it into the 8 g mug.

    We now have 4 g each in the 8 g and 5 g mugs.
